Clarkson said speculation about the Stig had become 'so boring'

Top Gear is still deciding whether a replacement Stig will be used in the new series, presenter Jeremy Clarkson has revealed.

"We don't know what to do," he said, speaking to Chris Moyles on Radio 1.

"Eventually a suggestion will come in and we'll say, 'Well that's a good idea' so we'll do that," he continued.

He said the Stig isn't in two Christmas specials and the team will decide on his future in January 2011 when a new series starts.

Whenever the Stig appeared in previous shows he was always wearing a racing helmet, prompting lots of speculation about who he or she was.

'Imagination takes over'

"Wasn't it just so boring? Everybody asked, 'Who's the Stig?' but nobody really wanted to know," Clarkson said.

"Kids thought it was a monster, and some people thought it was Michael Schumacher," he added.

But back in September, the BBC lost a court case over the publication of an autobiography by the man who was the last Stig.

Racing driver Ben Collins says he was the Stig for the past seven years.

Jeremy Clarkson also told Radio 1 listeners that in a forthcoming show he tries out racing for himself, but is "absolutely rubbish" at it.

"You come up to a corner and you think, 'What if I press the brake pedal now and nothing happens?' Your imagination takes over and you find yourself braking early."

The two Christmas episodes of Top Gear go out on 8pm on BBC Two on 21 and 26 December.
