LCD Soundsystem will play their 'farewell' gig in April

LCD Soundsystem have announced details of their final 'farewell' gig in New York.

The band will play Madison Square Garden on 2 April.

"It will be our last show," said the band's leader singer James Murphy. "We are retiring from the game."

Before the release of their most recent album This Is Happening Murphy confirmed it was likely to be the band's final LP.

Speaking to the BBC in July he said: "It is the end of a certain thing, the end of us being a professional rock 'n' roll band that makes albums and goes on tour and makes video and things."

The band have asked fans to wear either black or white for the final show.

"We will be playing with friends and family for nearly 3 hours-playing stuff we've never played before and going out with a bang," the band said in a statement.

"If it's a funeral, let's have the best funeral ever."
