The Beckhams, who have three sons, are expecting their first daughter in July

David and Victoria Beckham are expecting a girl for their fourth child.

A family spokesman confirmed on Sunday that 36-year-old Victoria is to give birth to the couple's first daughter in July.

The celebrity pair married in 1999 and have three sons, Brooklyn, 11, Romeo, eight, and Cruz, five.

They had already announced in January that fashion designer Victoria was pregnant.

35-year-old football star David, who captained England from 2000 to 2006, had hinted at the news late last week before the spokesman announced it.

'Very excited'

He's preparing for a new Major League Soccer season with American team LA Galaxy.

The Beckhams plan to attend the royal wedding next month before heading back to their American base for their daughter's birth.

Last week, David Beckham said he was excited as he prepared to become a father for the fourth time.

The footballer said his pregnant wife was in excellent health and "feeling good".

Asked about Victoria as he met sick children at a Los Angeles hospital, he said: "She's great, she's very healthy.

"She's feeling good. We're very excited. It's an exciting time for the family."

Beckham's LA Galaxy face Seattle Sounders FC on Tuesday.

He spent the close season in the UK working on his fitness with Tottenham Hotspur at their training ground in Essex.
