50 Cent has made a joke about the Japanese earthquake on Twitter

50 Cent has joked about the Japanese earthquake and tsunami, but says he did it for "shock value".

On 11 March, the day of the earthquake, he Tweeted: "Wave will hit 8am them crazy white boys gonna try to go surfing."

The rapper has since gone online and admitted that "some of my tweets are ignorant".

So far the official estimates are that 2,400 have been killed and 500,000 have been made homeless by the disaster.

After a joke made about evacuating women from a number of tsunami-threatened areas, 50 Cent said: "This is nuts but what can anyone do about it.

"Let's pray for anyone who has lost someone."
