Lady Gaga is on course to end Adele's UK album chart reign, according to the official midweek chart.

The official charts company have confirmed that Gaga's second album Born This Way is outselling the rest of the top 30 combined.

It added that the album is on course to sell 250,000 copies in its first week, which would make it the biggest first week sales of an album this year.

Gaga's debut album, The Fame, has re-entered the midweek chart at six.

Chart 'streak'

The Official Charts Company's managing director Martin Talbot said: "Lady Gaga is certainly on a hot streak. After her record singles chart haul, she is now set to romp away with number one in the official album chart.

"Such a large first week sales number is very impressive, making this the most spectacular album arrival of the year so far."

Adele's 21, which has spent a total of 18 non-consecutive weeks at number one, has been pushed down to number two in the midweek chart.

The Prodigy's World's On Fire live album is a new entry at number three.

As it stands Pitbull featuring Ne-Yo, Afrojack and Nayer's track Give Me Everything remains at top spot on the UK's official midweek singles chart.
