Matt Cardle said his new record would be released at the end of the summer

X Factor winner Matt Cardle has told Newsbeat his "anthemic" debut album will be released at the end of the summer.

The 28-year-old Colchester singer said he had been drawing on a range of influences for the record.

"My inspiration is everything I've ever listened to; Michael Jackson, Pearl Jam, Rage Against The Machine, Dave Matthews band.

I've been writing with some great people," he added.

"There's some anthemic stuff in there, there's some very upbeat stuff, there's some stripped back soulful stuff in there. It's real."

He also revealed it had been a relief to finally start working on music after the hype of his X Factor victory.

"It's been such a whirlwind," he said.

"For me to get my head together and get in the studio and get my inspiration back on track and start writing the album has been great.

"The album is due at the end of the summer, it's going really well, it's the kind of tracks I wanted to be writing."
