Pendulum have told Newsbeat they plan to work on side projects before starting on their fourth album.

Bassist Gareth McGrillen said: "We're going to force ourselves to take a break for a while, so we don't go too mental."

He added that the band had "a lot of ideas" for a new record, but would work on side projects for a while instead.

"There's always pressure to succeed, that's part of why we're taking a break," he said.

"We are doing lots of side project stuff, all the kind of music that wouldn't really be relevant to Pendulum.

'Doing dubstep'

"Rob [Swire] and myself are working on a vehicle for that, we're calling it Knife Party.

"Ben [Mount] is doing dubstep, Kev [Sawka] is doing dubstep.

"Ben has got a label called Crunch Recordings - and Perry [ap Gwynedd] is working with different bands as well.

"The great thing about Pendulum is we all have our things going on but we all come together, it's like a hub," he added.

The band spoke to Newsbeat at the T in the Park festival, where they headlined the Radio 1/NME stage on Friday 8 July.
