Californian stadium rockers Red Hot Chili Peppers are to play an intimate gig in London for BBC Radio 1.

The band will play London's Koko venue in Camden on Friday 2 September, the group's first UK show in four years.

Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe, who will be hosting the event, said: "The Chili Peppers have played such a big musical role in the lives of millions of people, myself included.

"I can't wait to see how they launch this chapter in their amazing journey."

Fans can register their details at the Radio 1 website in order to apply for a pair of tickets.

Registration closes at 9.15am on Sunday 21 August.

Highlights from the gig and an interview with the band will be broadcast from 7pm on BBC Radio 1 on 12 September.
