The Vaccines pull gigs over throat problems

The Vaccines have been forced to cancel gigs in Holland, Austria and Northern Ireland because of "continuing issues" with frontman Justin Young's throat.

Writing on their website the singer said: "The doctor has ordered immediate vocal rest with the risk of permanent damage to my speaking and singing voice if ignored."

He apologised to fans who had tickets for the performances.

Young has already had two operations in the past to address his vocal chords.

Fan 'upset'

In a written explanation online, Young also explained the band's decision to go ahead with a scheduled performance on US television show Jimmy Kimmel Live! despite the other shows being pulled.

"No performance takes priority over any other, but we had already travelled to LA especially when the doctor broke the news," he said.

"We only have a two song slot so we will be honouring this commitment."

He added: "Cancelling shows has unfortunately become a reality in an otherwise successful, exciting and rewarding year and we understand any anger, resentment or upset you feel.

"Please try to understand that this is as distressing and upsetting, if not more upsetting, for the band and everyone involved."

The band, who came third in the BBC's Sound Of 2011 poll in January, are still scheduled to play this year's Reading and Leeds festivals.

Their debut album What Did You Expect From The Vaccines reached number four in the official UK album chart when it was released in March.
