Euro 2012: 'No hassle' for black and Asian fans

The build up to Euro 2012 was overshadowed by claims of racism following the BBC Panorama Stadiums of Hate documentary.

It showed Asian students being attacked at a football match in Ukraine ahead of the tournament.

The former England captain Sol Campbell also encouraged black and Asian fans to stay away for their safety.

Uefa is looking into claims of racist chanting against Manchester City and Italy striker Mario Balotelli.

It's claimed the black player was abused by Spanish fans during a Euro 2012 game on Sunday.

The families of England players Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlaide-Chamberlain decided not to travel because of the concerns.

Newsbeat spoke to some black and Asian fans in Kiev.

"I've experienced no hassle at all, you get your idiots in every country and i think it's been blown out of all proportion. In fact the locals have been excellent, very welcoming.

"There have been no uncomfortable moments for me at all. If anything they have been over polite, they are very aware of the negative press back in the UK so if anything out here they've been more than polite really.

"I've been to tournaments before and this is right up there, everyone has been lovely and very kind."

"We've been out here several days and our experience has been totally positive.

"We saw the BBC Panorama report before we came out and we were scared to be honest, but so far we have just good things to say. We haven't experienced anything hostile so we would totally recommend people coming here, it's a lovely city.

"The locals have been very welcoming, very friendly. I would say it has been the reverse situation, we are quite unique here.

"There are 16 of us with a Bangladeshi background and we all live in Sweden, and we are more popular than other Swedish fans.

"It's been terrific, people have approached us to take photos with us and it's been a great feeling."
