Snow Patrol at T in the Park

Snow Patrol have headlined the opening night of T in the Park, Scotland's biggest festival.

The band took to the main stage in Kinross-shire playing hits such as Chasing Cars and Run.

Despite flooding across large parts of the UK on Friday, Balado Park stayed mainly dry.

That all changed on Saturday with heavy rain through the morning. Florence and the Machine, Olly Murs, Professor Green and Tinie Tempah also performed.

During their set, Snow Patrol's lead singer Gary Lightbody told the crowd: "We keep coming back because it's the best festival in the world."

In a surprise for the audience, he brought Ed Sheeran on to sing New York, a track from their most recent album.

The band have now played at T inthe Park a total of eight times.

Rapper and singer Example played on the main stage earlier in the evening.

He told Newsbeat: "You've got to earn your stripes here. I think after my arena tour and a few number ones, they've said 'Yeah, you can come on the main stage!"

He added: "I'm not just saying this, but the Scottish crowds are always the best."

Flood alert

Last night, Tayside was among the areas placed on flood alert by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency.

Sarah Kerrigan, who's 25 and from Dundee, said she had a plan if the downpours got too bad.

"We did say that we'd sleep in the car if we had to," she said. "You're not meant to but if we've got to sleep in the boot we will."

She joked: "Every single year it rains here. We've got emergency ponchos."

A total of 85,000 people are expected at the festival across the whole weekend.

Recently reformed Manchester group The Stone Roses are Saturday's headline act.

Emeli Sande, Ben Howard and Two Door Cinema Club are also due to perform.
