Radio 1's Hackney Weekend has been nominated for five prizes at this year's UK Festival Awards.

The event is up for best major festival, new festival, dance event, toilets and headline performance.

It is up against Bestival, Creamfields, Download, GlobalGathering, Hard Rock Calling, Isle of Wight, Reading & Leeds, T in the Park, V and Wireless Festival in the first category.

Winners will be decided by the public, external with voting open until 31 October.

Hackney Weekend was Radio 1's largest-ever free ticketed live music event, with an audience of 100,000 over the weekend of 24-25 June.

It was headlined by Jay-Z and Rihanna and featured more than 100 artists across six stages.

Jason Carter, who was responsible for putting the BBC festival on, said: "Hackney Weekend was the most ambitious event in Radio 1's history which brought together 100,000 music fans to celebrate the best in UK and international music and shine a spotlight on to East London.

"It's fantastic to see all the hard work and effort from everyone involved recognised with four nominations in the Festival Awards."

The winners will be revealed on 3 December at London's Roundhouse.
