Emily Atack has reported a Twitter troll to police after receiving a death threat on the social networking site.

Bedfordshire Police confirmed that they had received a complaint about malicious communication on 13 November and said an investigation was ongoing.

One message read: "Emily its time 4 u to leave this world, ur last hours wnt be pleasant, but it will achieve the objective."

Emily Atack, 22, says she has since had more abuse on Twitter.

Although earlier tweets were removed, more messages were targeted at the Inbetweeners star, who played Charlotte in the E4 show.

Emily Atack had encouraged her followers to also report the abusive messages saying she had "never read/seen anything so vicious towards me in my whole life".

The actress, who appeared on ITV's Dancing On Ice in 2010, replied to her abuser saying, "Prison for you", and told fans, "Hi all, thanks for your nice tweets! Police are on the case. X"

Other high profile names including diver Tom Daley and footballer Fabrice Muamba have had to report Twitter users after receiving abuse online.
