Green Day have announced that they are releasing a behind the scenes documentary called ¡Quatro!

The film will "take fans inside the world of Green Day", according to the band's website, showing them playing live and recording recent album trilogy ¡Uno!, ¡Dos! and ¡Tré!

A full-length version of the film will come out in 2013 but highlights will premiere on VH1 in the US next week.

¡Tré!, the third part of their album trilogy, is out on 11 December.

Bassist Mike Dirnt recently told Zane Lowe how recording the three albums took its toll on lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong.

The front man went into rehab for substance abuse in September after a much-publicised on-stage rant in Las Vegas.

Speaking about the ¡Quatro! film, Dirnt said: "Over the last year while we were recording our trilogy, we posted multiple clips every week so fans could see parts of the recording process of ¡Uno! ¡Dos! ¡Tré!

"¡Quatro! brings our fans one step closer by giving them even more access and revealing what it was like for us to make these records."
