Spotify reveals Gotye track most-streamed song of 2012

Gotye and Carly Rae Jepsen had the top two most streamed songs

Spotify has revealed its most streamed song of 2012 worldwide is Gotye's Somebody That I Used to Know.

Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen and We Are Young by Fun. are second and third on the music service's list.

The same three songs are also the most shared on social networks.

French DJ David Guetta has the most streamed album with Nothing But the Beat and he is also the most popular male artist, while Rihanna is the most popular female.

Meanwhile, the most streamed group in 2012 has been Coldplay.

Other UK acts on the Spotify lists include One Direction, with Up All Night being the fifth most-streamed album, and Adele being the third most popular female.

Spotify allows users to stream music over the internet but charges a subscription fee for many of its services.

The company started in Sweden in 2006 and is now available in 17 countries.

It was followed by a number of other streaming services including Deezer, Napster, Last.fm and We7.
