Producer Naughty Boy is stepping out of the shadows to release his own album

He's adopted the moniker 'Naughty Boy' but it seems 'Lucky Boy' might be more fitting.

Once the producer, whose real name is Shahid Khan, decided he wanted to be involved in music, opportunities appeared everywhere.

That is not to take away from his obvious and proven talent but his story is an interesting one.

"I was doing a degree in music technology but I wanted to be more creative," he explains.

"So I applied for a Prince's Trust grant and at the same time I applied to the Deal or No Deal show as well, hoping one of them would come through."

They both did, he bought a laptop with the grant and then spent weeks in Bristol filming the TV show, eventually winning 44 thousand pounds.

"It was amazing, it was just the craziest experience, I was on for 26 shows, they keep you on there however long they want you opening boxes."

He took his winnings and set up a studio in his parents shed before meeting a then relatively unknown Emeli Sande.

"We met one night and we just had a feeling we should work together."

He went on to produce and co-write Emeli's debut album Our Version of Events which as of December had sold more than one million copies in the UK alone.

"We kind of bring different things to the table," he says of his working relationship with Emeli Sande.

"Emeli was always more musical, she plays piano amazingly and I was always thinking how can I cool this up, it's a good union what we have."

This partnership has lead to Naughty Boy becoming one of the most in-demand producers of the moment.

"I've been getting to work with everyone I sort of wanted to; Tinie Tempah, Ed Sheeran, Leona Lewis, Rihanna."

He also joined forces with Emeli Sande to write a song for Susan Boyle but is disappointed he didn't get to meet her in person.

"I would love to meet her one day, I want to support her on tour."

While there is no shortage of people who want to work with him, he is now going it alone and releasing his own album.

It is a concept record about his obsession with fancy hotels which he has called Hotel Cabana.

"I am fascinated by hotels personally, it's a hotel for the rich and famous, it's not just any hotel."

It features a number of well known artists including Ed Sheeran, Bastille, Professor Green and of course Emeli Sande.

The Brit Award winner sings on the track Wonder, which was the first single from Naughty Boy's debut album which he hopes to release later this year.
