Lady Gaga's new single will be released next month, according to a message on her official Facebook page, external.

The first track off Artpop is out on 19 August with an album to follow in November.

A smartphone and tablet app will also be available to download which will contain the record plus extra music, videos, chat options and games.

The album and app will both be available to pre-order from 1 September.

Lady Gaga describes her app as a "musical and visual engineering system that combines music, art, fashion, and technology with a new interactive worldwide community - the auras".

Last year the star promised a multimedia experience for her fans.

"You inspired me to create something that communicated with images, because YOU do, YOU communicate with me and each other," she said.

"I'm hoping you will all continue to grow together and stay connected through your creativity."

Gaga has her own social networking site, Little Monsters, and is a prolific tweeter.

She was forced to cancel a number of dates on her Born This Way Ball world tour earlier this year after having surgery on her hip.

The 27-year-old was suffering from synovitis, an inflammation of the joints.

Artpop will be Lady Gaga's third studio album after debut The Fame and 2011's Born This Way, although she also released an EP - The Fame Monster - in 2009.
