Q Awards 2013: David Bowie leads with six nominations

The nominations for this year's Q Awards have been announced.

David Bowie leads the way with six nominations including best act in the world today, and best solo artist.

The 66-year-old made a comeback this year with his 25th studio album, The Next Day, which has been nominated for best album.

The winners of all the awards will be announced at the 23rd anniversary of the event on 21 October.

Foals, Daft Punk and Arctic Monkeys are all named in three categories.

Disclosure, Palma Violets, Laura Mvula, TOY, Tom Odell and Jake Bugg will fight it out for the Q best new act prize.

Ellie Goulding is up for best solo act, and best track with her number one single Burn.

Other nominees in the best solo act category include American singer-songwriter John Grant and Laura Marling.

The Anything Could Happen singer said: "It means so much to be nominated for a Q award, I have read and loved Q Magazine for as long as I can remember.

"It's an honour to be nominated in these categories with these nominees."

Ellie Goulding performed as part of the Q Awards 2012 gigs, which act as warm up shows for the awards ceremony, with The Cribs and Professor Green.

This year's pre-awards shows are yet to be announced.

A new category has been introduced in 2013.

Q best event, will be contested by Glastonbury, Latitude Festival, David Bowie's exhibition at the V&A as well as live shows by Kraftwerk, The Rolling Stones and The Killers.

Talking about the nominations for this year's ceremony, Q Senior Editor Matt Mason said: "It's been another unforgettable year for music, and the nominations reflect the breadth and brilliance of artists from the UK and beyond.

"All the Q Awards nominees have helped ensure that 2013 has been an incredible year for music."

Biffy Clyro's best album nomination for Opposites is joined by a nod for best act in the world today.

The Scottish band said: "We're extremely excited to be nominated for awards by Q magazine. It's a privilege to be in these categories."
