Ella Eyre 'blown away' after Brit Critics' Choice nod

Ella Eyre says she's "blown away" after being named on the shortlist for the Critics' Choice Award at next year's Brit Awards.

Chloe Howl and Sam Smith are also nominated in the category with the Waiting All Night singer.

The award's given to an act that people in the music industry think will be the most successful over the coming year.

Previous winners include Emeli Sande, Tom Odell, Adele, Jessie J and Ellie Goulding.

To qualify for the award, the artists nominated must be due to release their debut album in 2014.

The winner will be revealed next Thursday.

Ella Eyre has already had a number one single with Rudimental.

The 19-year-old provided vocals for their track Waiting All Night which she also performed with them at the Mercury Prize this year.

"I was completely overwhelmed to be honest, it was not something I had ever considered," she said.

"I hadn't really been focussing on it, it was one of those things where I just got told and I was like, 'What?'"

"I went to the Brit Awards two years ago on a school trip and I never thought then that two years later I would be considered for a Brit Award myself."

Eyre is releasing her first EP The Deeper on 15 December and features on the BBC's Sound of 2014 list.

"It's been an amazing year and to end on such a high with such amazing news, I'm blown away," she said.

The Brit Awards take place at the O2 Arena in London on 19 February.

The Arctic Monkeys and Katy Perry have already been confirmed to perform live at the awards.
