Splash! presenters Vernon Kay and Gabby Logan say they are happy with viewing figures for the second series of the show despite a drop.

Last year's launch show was watched by 5.6 million viewers compared to 4.9 million this time round.

"It's not a massive drop off," said Logan. "It was only down ever so slightly.

"I think across the board telly on the night wasn't watched as much as it was this time last year."

The ITV show features celebrities who try to master the art of diving while being mentored by Olympic bronze medallist Tom Daley.

The programme proved to be a ratings hit for the channel with Eddie 'The Eagle' Edwards winning the competition in 2013.

The stars can choose to dive from heights of up to 10 metres.

Logan's co-presenter Vernon Kay also said he wasn't concerned about the drop in figures.

"I don't think the figures for it are an issue to be honest," he said.

"Like Gabby said, the overall viewing percentage of people that watched TV - it's down. We are happy with the figures."

Stars taking part in the second series include Perri Kiely from dance group Diversity, ex-EastEnders actor Ricky Groves and Boyzone singer Keith Duffy.

Towie star Gemma Collins was eliminated after the first show of the new series.

After seeing the stars dive, Vernon Kay reckons former rugby union player Austin Healey is the man to beat.

"I think Austin by all accounts has some good dives under his belt. But I'd only like to see Perri do well because my kids love Diversity," said Kay.

When asked whether or not they would ever take part in the show and try out some dives, it was a no from Gabby Logan while Vernon Kay didn't rule it out entirely.

"I do stand on the edge because it's overcoming the fear," Kay admitted. "And I think it's good to experience that nervous adrenaline rush.

"First of all I'd dive in feet first, I'd do a swan dive. I'm going to be honest with you. But [I'd] give it a go definitely."

MP Penny Mordaunt, comedian Patrick Monahan and The Only Way Is Essex star Dan Osbourne are the latest people to be announced for the show.

Also taking part in the episode on 18 January will be veteran singer Paul Young and model Danielle Lloyd.
