Public Enemy to top Cambridgeshire's Secret Garden Party

Public Enemy will be one of the headline acts at this year's Secret Garden Party.

The US hip-hop collective join Hercules and Love Affair on the bill at the annual music festival, in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, which takes place between 24-27 July.

This year marks 25 years since Public Enemy released seminal track, Fight The Power.

The band formed in Long Island, New York, in 1982.

Since then they have released 14 albums, with the first four all being certified gold or platinum.

Clean Bandit are also on this year's festival line-up

Their highest-charting UK track is Harder Than You Think, which was chosen as the theme tune to the 2012 Paralympic Games.

It made it to number four on the Official Singles Chart.

Current members of Public Enemy include Chuck D, Flavor Flav, Professor Griff, DJ Lord and S1W.

This year will see them playing at Manchester's Parklife Weekender and Hertfordshire's Standon Calling, which they are also headlining.

Founder member Chuck D, 53, was named the ambassador for Record Store Day 2014 earlier this month.

But Public Enemy's anti-establishment views and controversial lyrics have been labelled homophobic and anti-semitic by the media in the past.

Speaking recently to Newsbeat, Chuck D, whose real name is Carlton Ridenhour, said the world was "different for musicians" compared to when they started out, as performing, touring and hip-hop as a whole have moved on since the 1980s.

Foreign Beggars, Rae Morris, The Ramona Flowers, Say Lou Lou and Jon Batiste are among the other acts confirmed for The Secret Garden Party 2014.

Little Dragon, Clean Bandit, Mo, Kwabs, Deap Vally, Thumpers, Morcheeba and Foxes have also been confirmed.

Last year, Faithless, Django Django, Soulwax, The Strypes and Bastille were the headline acts.
