Wiz Khalifa arrested in Texas for marijuana possession

Wiz Khalifa has been arrested in the US for possession of marijuana, authorities have confirmed.

He was stopped at a checkpoint at El Paso airport in Texas and charged with misdemeanour possession of the drug.

A statement from El Paso police says because the rapper travelled without identification, a search was ordered.

Transportation Security Administration agents found a canister containing marijuana and alerted police, who then arrested Khalifa.

On Sunday, the 26-year-old posted an image on Twitter of himself behind bars with the caption, "jail selfie".

He later tweeted his mugshot, adding "free this man".

He is thought to have been released from jail after posting bail of $300 (£178).

Court records do not list a lawyer.

Last year he married model Amber Rose and the pair have a one-year-old child named Sebastian Taylor Thomaz.

The rapper is best known for songs including Black and Yellow and his collaboration with Maroon 5 on Payphone.

He is now promoting his latest mixtape, 28 Grams.
