BGT magician Darcy Oake 'motivated by brother's death'

Britain's Got Talent magician Darcy Oake says if he wins the ITV competition he will use the money to help his family after his brother's fatal drug overdose in 2011.

The 26-year-old's brother, Bruce, became an addict at 21 and died four years later.

The Canadian magician said: "None of the finalists are focussing on the prize money.

"But if I did win, it would be important to help my family."

The winner of the series final on Saturday will receive £100,000.

Oake will be competing against 10 other acts in Saturday's final, including dancers Paddy and Nico, musical duo Bars And Melody and violinist Lettice Rowbotham.

"It's such a good opportunity for us, it's the fact that we've made it this far."

When asked about what his act will entail on the final show, the illusionist hinted it would be something "dangerous".

He said: "I will be putting myself, nobody else, in a serious amount of danger."

It is thought Oake's brother was addicted to heroin, painkillers and crystal meth, but he says he seemed happy and healthy three months before his death.

"I 100% know exactly how he would be responding right now and that's a big motivation for me."

The Britain's Got Talent judging panel is made up of Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams.

The BGT final starts at 19:00 BST on Saturday.
