Rik Mayall: comedians' tributes after his death at 56

Rik Mayall starred in BBC comedy series Bottom with Adrian Edmonson

British comedy stars have been paying tribute to the comedian Rik Mayall who has died at the age of 56.

His wife says he died unexpectedly on Monday at his home in Barnes, south London.

Mayall starred in shows like The Young Ones, Bottom and Blackadder.

Many young British comedians say he has influenced them and have been sharing their thoughts.

Noel Fielding from the Mighty Boosh was quick to post his thoughts on the comedian who he called a "genius".

He added: "Growing up there was no one funnier! We will really miss you."

Stand-up comedian and Hebburn star Chris Ramsey called him a "comedy legend".

While Star Trek's Simon Pegg said he was a "true pioneer".
