Blue Peter has introduced its new guide dog puppy to viewers on the CBBC channel.

Iggy, a Labrador golden retriever cross, made her first appearance on the programme on Thursday.

The puppy was born on 19 April alongside seven brothers and sisters at Guide Dogs' National Breeding Centre in Leamington Spa.

Iggy has now been teamed up with a family in Greater Manchester to begin her training.

The Blue Peter team will follow her at every stage, from travelling on public transport to getting used to busy environments.

Blue Peter presenter Lindsey Russell said: "I'm so excited to be introducing Iggy to CBBC viewers.

"I'm sure our audience will love her as much as I already do, and I can't wait to share our journey.

"In recent months we've followed so many inspiring working animals on Blue Peter - there are some incredible stories, and to be able to work so closely with Iggy as she trains to become a guide dog is a real honour."

Blue Peter welcomed its first guide dog, Honey, in 1964.

She was puppy-walked by presenters Christopher Trace and Valerie Singleton for a year until she started her advanced training.

In September 1966, Honey took her final guide dog assessment and passed.

Richard Leaman, chief executive of Guide Dogs, said: "It is a true honour to be working side by side with Blue Peter again.

"Guide dogs change the lives of more than 4,700 people across the UK on a daily basis and we are delighted to have the opportunity to show Blue Peter viewers how we make this happen."

Blue Peter's last official dog, Barney, left the show when his owner Helen Skelton quit as host last September.
