Dolly Parton has told Radio 1 Glastonbury was the biggest crowd she had ever seen
Dolly Parton has said she had never seen a crowd as big as the one she performed in front of at Glastonbury.
Speaking to The BBC Radio 1 Breakfast show with Nick Grimshaw, the star admitted she had felt "nervous" beforehand.
Thousands of fans flocked to the Pyramid stage to see the 68-year-old's Glastonbury debut in Somerset.
The crowd was larger than the festival's Friday and Saturday headliners, Arcade Fire and Metallica.
"They seemed to enjoy it and that made me feel good because I've never done the festival before," Parton said.
Wearing a white, diamante trouser suit, the country singer sang tracks including 9 to 5, Jolene and Coat of Many Colors.
"I was a little bit nervous, I guess more excitement than nerves, but it was really a fun show and the people were great and I'm so happy I finally got to do it."
Parton agreed to appear on Nick Grimshaw's show after he launched a campaign on Twitter, #itsdollyongrimmy, backed by the likes of Radio 1 DJs Huw Stephens, Annie Mac and Zane Low.

Speaking on the phone, Parton also spoke warmly of her "smart" and "gifted" goddaughter Miley Cyrus.
"She's a great talent, who I've known ever since she was a tiny little baby," she explained.
"I really, really hope she does great in this world of show business and I believe she will."
Parton had previously defended Cyrus after the 21-year-old singer was heavily criticised over her choice of on-stage outfits and raunchy performances.
She told Grimshaw: "I believe she's going to make the right choices. She's had to go a little drastic now and then just to prove her point, but I have got a lot of faith in her and I'm hoping she does great because she is gifted and special
"You know her comedic timing is very good so she's got all the goods. I'm just hoping she uses all of it well."

Parton believes the public feels "comfortable" with her and that is the reason she is so popular.
"I've just been around a long long time," she said. "I think people feel like they know me. I'm just like a big sister or a cousin or an aunt."
"I've got a good sense of humour and I don't take myself too seriously and I think people just relate to my attitude.
"I try to see the good in everything and in everybody and I try to bring that out. I'm very accepting of people no matter who and what they are."
