"Nothing will ever be the same for the clawed Canadian... mostly because it's hard to change things for a dead guy."
Without giving too much away, the mutant character isn't dead by the end of the first comic but he's on his way out.
The publishers said: "Wolverine's been tested in the past, and he's even come close to death on a few occasions.
"Back then he had his healing factor to pull him out of death's clutches, but now he's not so lucky."
Articles like one title Relax, Wolverine won't be dead long, external suggest some aren't too convinced that the death will be permanent.
However, writer Charles Soule told USA Today, external that the death of Wolverine "is an event that's designed to stick".
Talking about the character, who first appeared in a comic in 1974, Marvel editor-in-chief Axel Alonso added: "What better time to kill someone than their 40th birthday."
