You've deleted your videos, cleared out your camera roll and got rid of Angry Birds Star Wars for good.

But there is STILL not enough space on your iPhone for Apple's latest mobile operating system.

Up to 5.8GB of free storage is needed to install iOS 8, which for many people, is a big ask.

So here are a few things to help you get up to speed.

Will it work on my device?

As with most big software updates from Apple, there are some older devices on which iOS 8 won't "just work."

You'll need an iPhone 4S or later, iPad 2 or later and if you're using an iPod touch it needs to be at least 5th generation.

There might be life in your old iPhone 3G yet, but it won't be running iOS 8 for sure.

Have I got space for it?

You can save yourself a lot of frustration by going into the settings on your device, clicking "General" and then "Usage" to see how much free space you have.

If there is more than 4GB available, you might be able to download iOS 8 directly to your iPhone or iPad.

The amount of free space needed depends on the device you're using.

How can I make room?

Stand by to delete.

Photos and videos are likely to be the things taking up the most space, so get ruthless with those holiday snaps.

Binning apps, music and old messages could also help make room.

But make sure you back up - in settings go to "iCloud" then "Storage & Backup".

Surely there's another way?

There is.

Dust off your computer and plug in your device using an old-fashioned USB cable.

Open iTunes (make sure you're running the latest version), click on the icon showing your device and then "Update" to get iOS 8.

You'll still need some free space on your iPhone or iPad but nowhere near as much.
