Chris Brown: I'm a bigger and better man

Chris Brown needs to get in shape. OK... a view probably only held by the man himself.

The 25-year-old recently announced he's teaming up with the singer Trey Songz for a US wide tour this autumn.

Speaking to Yasmin and Twin B on Radio 1Xtra's breakfast show, he talked about healthy competition, as well advice for his younger self.

The singer won't be touring the UK at the moment though, because of his criminal record.

In 2009 the singer admitted to assaulting his then girlfriend and singer Rihanna, and was sentenced to five years of probation and six months community service.

This year he served an additional 131 days in jail for breaking that probation.

But now some media are calling this "the sexiest R&B tour ever", and Chris thinks working with Trey will keep him on his toes: "There's always friendly rivalry, when you become a performer you always want to be the best at what you do.

"I think it's healthy for me to have competition and it's healthy for him to have competition because it makes us both be on our a game," he added.

There aren't many details on dates and venues yet, but the 25-year-old has more pressing fitness issues: "I got four abs it's not six right now, I gotta work on that before tour starts."

The singer also described social media as the only way for his fans to understand who he is: "Being able to have a connection with me, aside from just listening to my music, sometimes that's not enough especially when you have people who look at you and admire you.

"They want to see what you're doing when you're having fun so that's why I love having my Instagram and I love having my Twitter," he explained.

But, perhaps unsurprisingly, the singer isn't too worried about who he offends: "I really don't care, if people know me they know I don't have a filter."

However Chris acknowledges he isn't liked by everyone: "I'm a young rich black dude, I sometimes can control the masses with my music that is very influential, certain people don't like that."

And at the wise old age of 25, what would be his advice to his 16-year-old-self? "You gotta learn from your mistakes and live your life. Every situation I have been through has made me who I am.

"I don't regret it," he says. "Although sometimes I'm like, man, I wish that didn't happen or whatever.

"For who I am and what I stand for I think every situation has made me a bigger and better man."
