The New England Patriots have won America's Super Bowl, beating the Seattle Seahawks 28-24.

It was the first time the Patriots won the championship game and beat the Seahawks in it for ten years.

The win puts New England alongside five other teams with at least four Super Bowl victories.

The sides had identical records heading into the National Football League's championship game, with 14 wins and four defeats each this season.

Seattle were hoping to become first team to defend the trophy since the Patriots in 2005.

But the Patriots just pipped their opponents after what's been described as the most compelling Super Bowl of recent times.

The sport's pin-up boy, Tom Brady, became only the third quarterback ever to lift the Vince Lombardi Trophy four times, joining Terry Bradshaw and Joe Montana.

Brady was also named the most valuable player of the Super Bowl for the third time in his career after Sunday's game.

He completed a championship record 37 passes for 328 yards and four touchdowns, including two in the fourth quarter to rally New England from a 10-point deficit, equalling the biggest comeback in Super Bowl history.

Last year's Super Bowl drew a record audience of almost 112 million.

It's thought around four million people watched this year's game in the UK alone.

Katy Perry performed the half time show with Missy Elliot and Lenny Kravitz in a set lasting 12 minutes.
