Danny Dyer in Twitter spat with Katie Hopkins

On Sunday night, Danny Dyer announced his engagement on Twitter saying "thanks for the love people".

But not everyone has been wishing him well.

Reality TV star Katie Hopkins has been ridiculing the fact it was Danny's girlfriend, Joanne Mas, who popped the question.

She proposed on Valentine's day and the couple's "exclusive engagement interview" with Hello! has just been published.

This is how the EastEnders actor broke the news to his Twitter followers.

But there was no love from Katie.

So Danny called her a "daft sexist".

And the insults kept flying ...

Danny added: "And no man wants his wife to have the look of Wilfred Bramble either... strange old world innit."

And then posted a picture of the Steptoe and Sons actor.

But it doesn't look like Katie liked the hat.

How to respond to that? A hamster in glasses, that's how....

Danny met his fiance Joanne met when they were both 14, and now they have three kids together.

He for one is happy she proposed: "I'm so glad she did it because I don't think I could have taken the rejection. I love the fact Jo proposed."

As for Jo: "I've always wanted to marry Danny and I decided that if I didn't get things moving, it would never happen.

"I never wanted to get married when the children were babies because I wanted to let my hair down and enjoy the day.

"But we have had our little boy now and we're not going to have any more so the time is right," she said.
