Florence Welch to 'strip back' shows after breaking foot

She is well known for her energetic performances, but it looks like Florence Welch will have to calm things down for a while.

The Florence and the Machine singer says she will have to "strip back" her upcoming performances after she broke her foot.

She hurt herself after "leaping off the stage" while performing at Coachella Festival in California.

Florence hopes she will be back on her feet in time for Glastonbury.

The singer made the announcement on the band's official Facebook account, along with an image of an X-ray of a foot.

In a statement she said: "Hi everyone, I'm so sorry to say, that after what was one of my favourite shows ever at Coachella, I have discovered I have broken my foot from leaping off the stage.

"Unfortunately while this heals, my performances will have to be somewhat stripped back,

"I'm so sorry, I'm pretty devastated, but I still want to do the shows.

"I understand this is not what you were expecting, but I hope it's just as enjoyable. I'm going to try and make it super special for you.

"By the time Glastonbury rolls around I should be back on my feet.

"This album was so much about making something from what was broken, so let's see what we can do with this. All my love, Florence."

With the band's new album, How Big How Blue How Beautiful out in June, the singer had been looking forward to a busy year including performing at Radio 1's Big Weekend in Norwich.

Florence Welch is scheduled to take part in at least eight major performances before Glastonbury in June.

We don't yet know what impact her injury will have on her upcoming shows, but we have taken a look at her schedule to see which shows could be affected.

Radio 1 Big Weekend, 23 May

When it was revealed that Florence was due to perform at Radio 1's Big Weekend in Norwich, she said she was "really excited".

It is due to be her third Big Weekend appearance after previously playing events in Hackney and Bangor.

The Governors Ball Music Festival, 5-7 June

With the likes of Lana Del Rey and Bjork performing, the three day event, which takes place on Randall Island in New York City, has a strong female line-up.

It is expected to be Florence's first performance at the festival since 2012.

Merriweather Post Pavilion and Blue Hills Bank Pavilion, 9-10 June

Next up are two more US-based performances; the first in Columbia, where Florence was going to be supported by singer Empress Of. The following day Florence has a gig in Boston lined up.

Bonnaroo Music Festival, 11-14 June

The event in Manchester - no, not that one, a city in Tennessee - will see the likes of Deadmau5, Mumford and Sons and Kendrick Lamar take to the stage across four days.

Florence is due to perform on the Sunday.

Bestival Toronto Island, 12 June

Next up, Florence is due to strut her stuff at Bestival's first festival outside the UK.

Florence and The Machine and Nas were the first two acts to be confirmed as part of the Canadian line-up.

Hurricane Festival, 19-21 June

After a stint in America, Florence is then scheduled to make the journey across the Atlantic to Scheessel in Germany.

For the festival's 19th year, the likes of Placebo, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds and Alt-J are all on the line-up, alongside Florence.

INMusic Festival, 22-24 June

Organisers seem excited about the prospect of Florence and The Machine performing, calling it the band's "first and long awaited visit to Croatia".

Glastonbury, 24-28 June

It is the highlight of the year for many festival-goers, and it seems arguably Florence too.

While she has admitted she will have to scale back some of her upcoming performances, she has stressed that she hopes she will have made a full recovery by the time Glastonbury rolls around.
