Pixie Lott is to star in Breakfast at Tiffany's on stage in the West End.

The pop star will play the leading role of Holly Golightly, made famous in the original 1961 movie by iconic film star Audrey Hepburn.

It will be her first time treading the boards as an adult; her debut theatre appearance was as a child in a London Palladium production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

The 24-year-old called her new role "a dream come true".

She adds: "I absolutely love Holly's style, and free spirit; she has always been an icon to me and I can't wait to bring my own personality to the role."

Breakfast at Tiffany's storyline, based on a novel by Truman Capote, is about a country girl (Holly Golightly) who turns into an American socialite.

Although Pixie Lott grew-up studying acting at stage school, she is known more as a pop star.

The singer has had three number ones in the Official Singles Chart; Mama Do (2009), Boys and Girls (2009) and All About Tonight (2011).

In 2014, she also made it to the 11th week of the show in Strictly Come Dancing.

The new Breakfast at Tiffany's, set in 1943, is by Richard Greenberg, the Tony-winning writer of baseball drama Take Me Out.

It will open March 2016 at Leicester's Curve theatre before heading to seven cities across the UK, and ending up at the Theatre Royal Haymarket for a 12 week run.

Back in 2009, former soap star Anna Friel was praised for her performance as Holly Golightly on stage, but the production generally had poor reviews.

In the show at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, staff had to stop the audience from taking pictures of Friel in the act where she appeared naked, after photos posted on the internet.
