After reports YouTube star PewDiePie made £4.5m last year, he's uploaded a video talking about it.

His humility and honesty shows exactly why he is so popular.

Felix Kjellberg has 37.7 million subscribers and over 9 billion views.

He posts videos of himself playing games almost every day and makes money from the adverts.

Yet he's not talked much about his income - saying it's "roughly" £2.5m.

A Swedish newspaper did some sums and estimated that he actually earned far more.

The 25-year-old felt moved to make a video after all the negative comments on social media.

He explains: "Money is the topic that I purposely try and avoid, I feel like it's not important to anyone and I just want to make entertaining videos. Don't get me wrong though, I don't hate money."

He said the happiest he's ever been was working at a hot dog stand after he dropped out of college.

"I was the happiest I was at that time because finally for the first time I was doing what I wanted to do. The fact I could make videos was far more important to me that the fact I had to spend a few hours a day doing a job that wasn't that prestigious.

"I really think money doesn't make you happy. I am just as happy now as I was five years ago. I am very happy I don't have to worry about paying rent, because that was a huge issue, but other than that it doesn't change much. "

Some other comments he addresses directly.

Pewdie's response: "I think that's what's cool about YouTube, anyone could technically do it. I do work a tremendous amount, but you could do it too, Alex, if you wanted. I believe in you."

Pewdie says: "It really doesn't matter what you think. Life is not fair, it is just what it is. If you think someone else is funnier, go refresh their videos."
