Sarah Harding says she'd love to be asked to be a mentor on The Voice but worries she'd be compared with Cheryl Fernandez-Versini.

The show is looking for a new mentor after Rita Ora joined The X Factor.

"I'd love to be asked and be very flattered but there'd be that comparison with Cheryl," she tells Newsbeat.

"I've been in that position and I know how it feels. I'd love to help other people out because it's not easy."

Last year Sarah was a guest mentor on The Voice Ireland.

Speaking ahead of the release of her debut solo single, Sarah says she's nervous yet excited.

She's the final member of Girls Aloud to release solo material.

"I started working with new producers and experimenting with different sounds.

"I wanted to really channel my inner rock chick and have more involvement and full creative control."

Girls Aloud recorded the majority of their songs with a production team called Xenomania.

Sarah says she felt out of her comfort zone when recording her solo material.

"With Girls Aloud we were a pop factory. I knew everyone at Xenomania and we were all in and out of different rooms.

"Doing it on my own was quite scary."

Sarah says she didn't initially know what sound she was aiming for when she first went into the recording studio.

"I was listening to different tracks and experimented with different sounds," she says.

"It's quite important for me to have real instruments playing on the track. I didn't want it to be all electro because I want to be on stage with a band.

"I just don't want to be one of these people going solo that's standing on a stage on their own with a backing track.

"I'd love to play a festival. I'd love to be able to just get on a stage and rock out."

Corrie backlash

"You're never going to please everyone," Sarah reckons about the negative reaction she got after appearing on Coronation Street.

"At the end of the day if I was a face that people didn't recognise it might be a different story.

"I just take it with a pinch of salt. You've got to have thick skin in this industry."

"Sarah Harding is the prime example of why singers should never resort to acting when they fail in music! #corrie", one Twitter user commented., external

Another tweeted: "Astounded at how diabolical Sarah Harding's acting is. What a terrible casting decision. #Corrie", external

Sarah says filming her cameo in Coronation Street was really good fun but "it was tough".

"We didn't get much time to learn the lines. It isn't like doing films. With films you get a lot longer to learn a script. You read it through with all the cast.

"I have a lot of respect for all the actors on the soap because what they do is so fast-paced. They have to literally learn lines on the spot sometimes.

"They're so good at what they do."
