Jess Glynne has reached number one with Don't Be So Hard on Yourself - her fifth single.

She now holds the joint record with Cheryl Fernandez-Versini for the most number one singles by a British female artist.

Speaking on The Official Chart with Greg James, Jess said she was close to tears.

"I'm very emotional today. I can't tell you how much it all means to me," she said.

"This song is quite a special one for me.

"It comes from somewhere deep and it's one of those songs that helped me get through what I have been going through this summer.

"Everyone goes through hard times. Stuff happens in people's lives that aren't so great. I guess it was a bit of therapy for myself."

In June Jess was forced to cancel some live performances because she needed vocal surgery.

She found out the news on the day she released her debut album - I Cry When I Laugh.

Rita Ora and Geri Haliwell both have four.

The Beatles hold the record for most number ones by a British band - they have 17.

Sir Cliff Richard has the record for most number ones by a British male solo artist - he has 14.
