Talking earlier this year, the singer said: "It's an Australian institution. It's always on in my local chip shop.
"I got asked to do it and it sounded like it could be fun. I did Shortland Street in New Zealand as well and I'm sure if Emmerdale or EastEnders ever ask me in England I would do that as well."
Alec Snow, who plays Matt Page in the soap, said: "It was an awesome experience filming with Ed because he seemed like a really down-to-earth, nice guy that genuinely wanted to be there.
"It was funny seeing how star struck everyone both on and off set was. It was quite entertaining seeing the effect he had on everyone around him."
The star is the only international celebrity to appear on Home And Away and the biggest musician since Aussie pop star John Farnham did a cameo on the soap in the late 1980s.
Rival Australian soap Neighbours has seen a few musicians appear over the years including Lily Allen, Spice Girl Emma Bunton, the Pet Shop Boys and Paula Abdul, a former singer and US X Factor judge.
Sheeran's cameo will air in the UK on Channel 5 later this year.
It's broadcast on Channel 7 in Australia next week.
The 24-year-old singer also has a recurring role in FX's new medieval drama The Bastard Executioner.
It tells the story of a 14th Century warrior whose life is changed by "a divine messenger".
The singer's set to play Sir Cormac, who's described as a deadly and ambitious character.
