Our interview with Piff the Magic Dragon from America's Got Talent
- Published
This year's America's Got Talent features two British competitors in the semi finals and one is a dragon.
John van der Put is a magician based in Las Vegas - and the man behind Piff the Magic Dragon.
"Van der Put began his career in IT before moving into magic," his Wikipedia biography reveals.
And the 35-year-old from south London could win a million dollars if he succeeds on the show.
His chihuahua is a rescue dog called Mr Piffles and Piff's able assistant on stage.
"Look at Piffles' eyes. Those eyes are on the prize my friend," said Piff.
"He wants that million dollars in cold hard cash."
We caught up with Piff at Leeds festival where he performed his show.

They were also hoping to catch up with their mates Mumford and Sons, who Piff and Piffles supported at gigs back in 2012.
"A lot of people took issue. Some days they were great but other days they were saying 'where is the Mumford and Sons?'
"What's this stupid dragon doing with this tiny dog?"
Piff's audition video on America's Got Talent has been watched more than four million times online.
But of course performances on both sides of the Atlantic means a lot of travelling for Mr Piffles.
"He swims," says Piff. "It's the best way to cure jetlag. He just doggy paddles over. He's got armbands, don't worry."
The other British contender on the US talent show is ventriloquist Paul Zerdin.
