Kanye West says he's totally serious about becoming US president in 2020.

In an interview with Vanity Fair he says he's had lots of support since announcing plans to run for election.

He says people are "really into the idea" because they think he's "extremely thoughtful" and "probably the most honest celebrity we have".

One possible spanner in the works of his political ambitions, though: he "hates politics".

"I'm not a politician at all. I care about the truth and I just care about human beings. I just want everyone to win, that's all I can say, and I think we can," he says.

And he doesn't really want any competition for the country's top job.

"When I run for president, I'd prefer not to run against someone. I would be like "I want to work with you," he says.

So he's got a lot of hard work ahead of him if he wants get to the White House, or even to get into the running.

"I didn't approach that because I thought it would be fun," he says. "It wasn't like, Oh, let's go rent some jet skis in Hawaii."

"No, the exact opposite. I sit in clubs and I'm like, Wow, I've got five years before I go and run for office and I've got a lot of research to do".

He admits he's got a lot of "growing up to do" though, but says he won't be giving up his creative side.

Kanye West, US president - could it really happen?

"I have to stay creative", he says.

"The whole point is to have someone in office that's creative, that's around amazing creatives."

He thinks the world can be helped through design.

Earlier this month, Taylor Swift fuelled rumours she could run as Kanye's deputy after posting #KanTay2020" on Instagram.
