Jay Z's streaming music service Tidal has announced a charity concert to celebrate reaching one million subscribers.

Headliners for the show in Brooklyn on 20 October include Beyonce (shocker), long-time Tidal supporter Prince, Usher, Nicki Minaj and Jay Z himself.

Other acts playing include Lil Wayne, TI and Damien Marley.

Tidal launched in March with some of the biggest names in music presenting the "artist-owned" streaming service.

Tickets will cost between $74 (£50) and $244 (£160), with all proceeds going to New World Foundation.

The non-profit group works with community organisations on issues including civil rights, social justice, poverty and education.

Viewers watching online can also donate during the live stream.

Tickets go on sale on 2 October, with subscribers getting priority.

When it launched, Tidal only offered paid subscriptions, but it has struggled to compete against more established rivals, some of which both offer free streaming services supported by advertising.

Spotify has more than 20 million paid subscribers. Apple said in August it's streaming service, launched on 30 June, had attracted more than 11 million members during its free trial period.

Marcus Mumford isn't a fan of the service

Tidal service has been criticised by some people in the music industry, including artists such as Lily Allen and Mumford and Sons, who said it will only boost the careers of its superstar owners.

Marcus Mumford said: "We wouldn't have joined it anyway, even if they had asked. We don't want to be tribal.

"I think smaller bands should get paid more for it. Bigger bands have other ways of making money, so I don't think you can complain."

Jay Z has defended the service and an update called Tidal Rising, which was announced shortly after the launch, aims to promote emerging talent and allows artist to upload their own content to the site.
