Kelly Bishop, who starred as Rory's grandmother Emily and Scott Patterson, who played Lorelai's love interest Luke Danes, are also expected back.
Melissa McCarthy, who has gone on to have roles in Bridesmaids and The Heat, starred as Lorelai's best friend Sookie.
There is no word yet as to whether she will appear in the Gilmore Girls reboot.

Creator Amy Sherman-Palladino, left before the end of the original series over a contract dispute.
Speaking at the ATX TV Festival earlier this year, she told fans at the Gilmore Girls reunion panel that she had "no plans" to revive the series.
"Here's the good thing: Nobody here hates each other. It would have to be the right everything - the right format, the right timing," she said, external.
"It would have to be honoured in a certain way. If it ever came around, I think we would all jump in and do it.
"If it ever happened, I promise we'd do it correctly."
Fans know that Sherman-Palladino has already got her ideal ending in mind.
She's spoken before about the final four words she already planned to finish the series, but because of her early departure from the production, she never used them.
Maybe this time around, we'll finally get to hear what they are.
