From Radio 1's Live Lounge to flying to being alone, there are many things that apparently terrify musicians.

We caught up with five acts playing at a special Halloween gig in Manchester for Vevo.

Years & Years

Years & Years recycled a Halloween outfit from earlier in the week when they dressed up as dead Spice Girls.

"We could only afford one outfit, we need another number one before we can afford two outfits," frontman Olly Alexander said.

There are a different range of things that scare these three.

For Mikey Goldsworthy it is the Joker from the original Batman films.

"He is terrifying and he turned a man into a skeleton," he told Newsbeat.

"The character Bob from Twin Peaks when I was a kid" terrified Emre Turkmen the most.

"The first time I saw him he was behind a couch and I was like, 'What the hell' and he pretty much terrified me for a number of years."

As for Olly, he said...

"The scariest thing that has ever happened to me was three hours into a six-hour flight from New York.

"Usually outside the plane the wind is going at about 20 or 30 mph, we were on about 130 mph and that thing was shaking.

"For 15 minutes that thing was terrifying and all the stewards and stewardesses were sitting down and strapping in, then it just stopped and we were fine but yeah my heart was in my throat."

Wolf Alice

Wolf Alice spent an hour getting ready for Halloween, dressed as a sort of Kiss tribute act.

It was a collective decision but Theo bought the costumes.

They told us that although playing Radio 1's Live Lounge is a huge honour, it is also one of the most terrifying things a band can do.

"The countdown before the Live Lounge, '10, nine, I'm going to have a heart attack, seven,'" joked Theo Ellis from the band.

"It is the most intense music you can possibly play."

"So that is scary and Phil Taggart," added Joff Odie.

Little Simz

The 21-year-old rapper dressed as a more roughed-up version of her character from the music video for her track Dead Body, complete with a gunshot wound to the head.

"I believe in the supernatural to an extent," she told Newsbeat at the Halloween gig.

"I don't think it is what people think it is, perception is a weird thing.

"I have definitely had weird experiences, I've been in houses and heard noises," she said.

"I'm sure everyone has, but when you are in the moment you genuinely feel like, 'I am going to die, something is out to get me.'"

Nothing But Thieves

Nothing But Thieves admitted they were feeling a little fragile after playing what they called their "best show to date" on Friday night at the Electric Ballroom in London.

And underprepared for the fancy dress aspect of the gig.

"We went to a shop on the A127 and bought whatever was in there," frontman Conor Mason explained.

"There were budget restrictions as well, our album only went to number seven," joked guitarist Dom Craik.

"This is the problem, if we had a number two like Peter Andre then we would make an effort."

The most terrifying prospect for this band is nothing to do with the supernatural.

"The Live Lounge, we never ever get nervous apart from Live Lounge. That countdown thing is horrible, it is designed to make you terrified."
