Britney Spears reveals she is working on a new album

The rumours are true - Britney Spears is making a new album.

She has tweeted a picture of herself with her finger on her lip and a caption confirming she is "working hard" on new material.

Last month she posted photographs of herself on Instagram where she appeared to be in a studio.

It has been almost two years since her last studio album, Britney Jean, was released; it became her lowest-selling UK record.

Britney tweeted: "Working hard and hardly working...new album...wheeeee!"

There are no details yet when the new album will be released, or what she will call it.

She had previously mentioned on social media that she was recording new tracks.

Britney tweeted: "JUST finished recording some vox. LOVE this song. It makes ME smile, and I hope it will make you smile too... #B9"

Britney is still performing her Las Vegas residency, which started back in December 2013 and has been extended through to 2017, with approximately 50 performances each year.

This month also saw her guest appearance on the US television drama Jane the Virgin.
