Gabourey Sidibe 'proud' of Empire sex scene after getting abuse on social media

Gabourey Sidibe says she's "proud" of her sex scene in US hip-hop show Empire despite abuse on social media.

The Oscar-nominated actress, 32, told Entertainment Weekly, external she was too busy working to check criticism on Twitter.

"I, a plus sized, dark-skinned woman, had a love scene on primetime television," she said.

"I had the most fun ever filming that scene even though I was nervous. But I felt sexy and beautiful and I felt like I was doing a good job.

"I'm very proud of the work we all did to make that scene a great opening for the episode. I keep hearing that people are 'hating' on it.

Gabourey Sidibe plays Becky Williams - the head of A&R at New York's Empire Records - in the show.

The sex scene opens the sixth episode in the second series of Empire, which will be shown on E4 on Tuesday evening.

Gabourey Sidibe was nominated for a best actress Oscar for her role in 2009's Precious, but lost out to Sandra Bullock, who won for her part in The Blind Side.

Precious was nominated for six Academy Awards in total, but only won two.
