Idris Elba: Luther got complaints from bed firms
- Published
Luther star Idris Elba has revealed the BBC show got complaints from bed companies after the last series.
Obviously, we won't spoil what happened, just in case you haven't had time to catch up on the box set, but needless to say it involved someone hiding in the space under a bed.
Idris, who plays the title role of John Luther, said the scene was "pretty scary, I ain't going to lie".
The star warned fans should expect similar from the new series.
"A lot of people said that they wouldn't watch Luther again. And I think a few bed companies complained, like 'we can't sell beds with a gap underneath it'."
Idris said it was exciting to see how fans reacted.
"We try to keep it exhilarating and keep people on the edge of their seats. It's very big TV. For us it feels like a film and that's what we want. We want people to go 'ooh, aargh, I don't know what's going to happen next'. That's part of the DNA.
"But I am sorry to those who got scared, I didn't mean that to happen."

Elba also told Newsbeat that fans will get to meet Luther "at a very different point" in his life in the new series and then "well, the phone rings".
He added that the cast, crew and production teams wanted the audience to feel like the storyline and DCI John Luther had moved on.
"I am excited it's back. I was excited when I started shooting it but I am more excited for the fans who are so loyal and patient and they don't know what to expect.
"It's not like we're telling them, 'oh, it's going to be a full season this time' and they're like, 'well how many?' But I am excited it's coming back. I love that character and that I've had the opportunity to keep him alive in any which way I'd like."
Elba recently revealed some of the artists he worked with on a soundtrack for the series, featuring London artists such as Wretch 32 and Tanika.
The new series also stars Rose Leslie from Game of Thrones and Laura Haddock from The Inbetweeners film.
Luther starts on BBC One 15 December.
