The most unpopular character in Star Wars history, Jar Jar Binks, will not feature in the upcoming film The Force Awakens, a producer has confirmed.

"Jar Jar is definitely not in the movie," Kathleen Kennedy said in a news conference on Sunday.

The character first appeared in The Phantom Menace in 1999 and was voted the most annoying film character of all time in an online poll in 2006.

When Ms Kennedy made the announcement the audience in the room applauded.

Ewoks will not be making an appearance either.

"That's because Harrison [Ford] insisted on it," she said.

Experts recently calculated how much it would cost to build - and destroy - the Death Star.

They say it would set you back $852,000,000,000,000,000 (£564 quadrillion) just to build the megastructure.

To put that into context - it's roughly 13,000 times Earth's GDP (the total value of everything we make in a year).
