The unofficial memorial for Alan Rickman platform 9 and 3/4s at King's Cross

Fans mourning the death of Harry Potter actor Alan Rickman have made platform 9 and 3/4s at King's Cross railway station a memorial site.

He played Professor Severus Snape in the films.

Author JK Rowling has written a tribute to him, as have other cast members from the Harry Potter franchise.

But fans who have been queuing up to get a picture at the platform made famous by the books, have also left tributes to the actor.

As well as flowers and cards, fans have written messages and left pictures of the 69-year-old, who died from cancer.

Ellie and friend Lucy, both 20, are from Australia.

They say they grew up on both the books and the movies.

"I loved him in Love Actually as well," says Lucy (left above). "He was a great actor so it was a great loss."

Ellie adds: "I thought that he was probably one of the best Snape choices that one could make. He was such a good Snape, he really got the role, I think.

"I remember in the first movie when Harry's writing down what Snape's saying and he gets angry at him. That's one of my favourite scenes."

Sarah and Alice are also from Australia but they said they'd not heard of Alan's death until they got to platform 9 and 3/4s.

Both said his passing was "very sad".

"I was mainly a big fan of him in Harry Potter. Obviously I've seen him in other films, but I think I just liked how in depth his characters were," Sarah tells Newsbeat.

"Like how much emotion and effort he put into his characters."

Alice adds: "I just loved his voice when he would be Snape. It was just very entertaining. He made you feel like you were in a world with him as well."
