Headlining Super Bowl's half-time show was meant to be Coldplay's big moment, but it was guest star Beyonce who stole the limelight.

The British band kicked off the 13-minute performance with a medley of their hits before being joined by Bruno Mars and Queen B.

Beyonce came on to perform her new song Formation, while Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson popped up for Uptown Funk.

Gene Simmons tweeted: "Beyonce and Bruno Mars stole it.", external

By the way - in the actual Super Bowl final the Denver Broncos beat the Carolina Panthers 24-10.

Here are a few reasons why everyone was (super) bowled over by Bey.

Beyonce saved herself from falling over

Coldplay were mistaken for Maroon 5 - oops

Coldplay were the "main" act on stage, but Empire actress Taraji P Henson didn't even know who she was watching.

Yep, poor Taraji mistook Coldplay for Maroon 5.

She deleted the tweet when she realised and posted this.

Beyonce made a political statement

Many people have been commenting on how Beyonce used her performance to make a point about the rights of black people.

Her dancers were dressed like radical political group, the Black Panthers, and they formed an X during the performance, seen as a reference to activist Malcolm X.

Beyonce's mum also posted a photo of her with the dancers making black power salutes.

Some people though on social media called for a boycott of Beyonce's performance at the Super Bowl after her video for Formation was released.

One woman wrote on the singer's Facebook page, external: "As the wife of a police officer, I am offended by this entire video.

"Rise above and stay above the strife. For a girl who grew up in a privileged, wealthy family, she has no business pandering to those who didn't."

Beyonce used the event to announce a world tour

Not content with dropping surprise track Formation the day before, Beyonce also used the moment to announce a world tour.

Well - there are only US dates at the moment but more will be revealed soon.

Lady Gaga also sang the national anthem

And even the kids were there...

Gwyneth Paltrow was at the Super Bowl to support Chris Martin after their "conscious uncoupling" in 2014.

She brought along their daughter Apple, 11, who she photographed backstage with Beyonce and Jay Z's four-year-old girl Blue Ivy.
