Kanye West's new album: TurboGrafx -16

A nineties video game console that flopped in North America and is virtually unheard of in the UK has been trending on Twitter.

Why?

Mr Kanye West.

"My next album is titled Turbo Grafx 16 as of now…" he tweeted.

"Just on some super nerd vibes… one of my favourite gaming systems when I was a kid…

"Blazing Lazers was probably my favourite game."

TurboGrafx-16, also sold under the name PC Engine, was very successful in Japan, despite failing to compete with Sega or Nintendo in Britain or the US.

His new album is due in the summer.

However his current album went through more than a few name changes (remember Waves, Swish and so help me god?) before he settled on The Life Of Pablo, so perhaps don't go swapping your console yet.

As Kanye continues to position himself as an outlier, a man different from the rest of us, perhaps his love of TurboGrafx -16 is just more proof of his genius? Some gamers think the retro console was completely underrated.

The editor of Tech site The Verge said Kanye having a Turbo Grafx 16 was totally Kanye.

The Life of Pablo is the first Kanye West album that didn't chart in its first week at all.

It's because he's keeping it solely on Tidal, Jay Z's subscription streaming service and Tidal isn't sharing figures with any of the companies that rank album sales.

However, TMZ reports that membership has doubled since Kanye released his album, so perhaps his strategy's working.
