Kobe Bryant is considered one of the greatest players in the history of the National Basketball Association (NBA).
At the Staples Center, Los Angeles, a capacity crowd of more than 18,000 turned out to see him play his final game.
Stars including Kanye West and and Jay Z watched as Kobe's Los Angeles Lakers took on the Utah Jazz with the game ending 101-96.
Injuries have played a part in Kobe calling time on his 20-year career.
It's been reported that fans paid up to £20,000 to see the 37-year-old take to the court for the last time.
"Man, I can't believe how fast 20 years went by," he said after the game,
"It's crazy, absolutely crazy to be standing here on the same court with you guys, with my team mates behind me.
"I appreciate the journey we have been on, there have been a few ups and downs but the most important part is that we all stayed together throughout.
"All I can do here is thank you guys for all the years of support, all the years of inspiration. This has been unbelievable. I can't believe it has come to an end,"

Kobe spent all of his 20 seasons in the NBA with the L.A. Lakers - the longest time a player has spent with one team.
Kobe Bryant has won FIVE championships in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2009 and 2010.
He's played 48,595 minutes, the sixth most in NBA history.
When the Lakers beat the Toronto Raptors 122-104 on January 22, 2006, Kobe Bryant scored 81 of the Lakers' total points.
Kobe's been selected for 18 consecutive All-Star games, placing him second in the all-time rankings behind Kareem Abdul-Jabbar who was picked 19 times.
For 4 of those All-Star games he was voted the Most Valuable Player (MVP).
Bryant is the third on the league's all-time scoring list with 33,581 points.
During his career Kobe has worn the number 8 and 24 as his jersey number.
